News and Tips for UA Science, Engineering,
and Nursing Faculty and Students

  • More E-books are our latest initiative for building a virtual library. New conference proceedings from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) will be in electronic format only beginning in 2009. Access from the ASME Digital Library.
  • This summer Rodgers Library also acquired access to the R2 Digital Library, a huge collection of nursing books. The R2 Digital Library will give a boost to the large number of distance education students enrolled in the Capstone College of Nursing.

  • To help you find content in library-generated Web pages, try our new Site Search. A dialog box for Rodgers Site Search is at the bottom of this page.
  • The Nightingale Room, a new group study place, is a popular stop for students working on collaboratively on special projects. The room accommodates up to six (6) students.

  • In August, Rodgers Library started a subscription to BIOSIS Previews, the premier database for the life sciences. The literature can be accessed back to 1955 with this tool.
  • SciFinder Scholar is available for access from all campus computers. A special desktop client must be loaded on your computer to use SciFinder Scholar. Start here. A Web version of SciFinder Scholar will be ready later this fall.

  • Navigating the book stacks got much easier this summer with the addition to new signage. Colorful images, along with standard call numbers, point users to major subject areas such as geology and electrical engineering.
  • Our online reference book collections continue to grow. Key collections include: Knovel, ENGnetBASE, and CHEMnetBASE. Also available: Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology.
  • Safari Books online is a great choice for computer science reference books.

  • Your are invited to ask questions or offer comments from the Online help page on our Web site or email us at scenglib@bama.ua.edu. We are always ready to serve you better.

  • RSS feeds are useful to keep aware on new books arriving daily in Rodgers Library. This service can greatly boost faculty productivity. Open now
  • Another tool for finding new books is located in the library's catalog module. New books are shelved in a display area immediately to the right when you enter Rodgers Library.
